Origin of Liechtenstein
Liechtenstein is a doubly landlocked alpine sovereign state in Central Europe bordered by Switzerland and Austria. It is the fourth smallest country in Europe and is only about 15 miles long and 13 miles wide. The Liechtenstein family ruling dynasty, is one of the oldest ruling houses in Europe. The family bought and combined the princely Vaduz and Schellenberg holdings in 1699, creating the present-day state of Liechtenstein. In 1806, Liechtenstein became a sovereign state in its own right when the Napoleonic forces of France occupied and dissolved the Holy Roman Empire. Liechtenstein is an ethnically diverse country that is home to a range of ethnicities. The majority of inhabitants are German-speaking, with the majority of these descended from Alemannic-speaking groups. The remaining population of Liechtenstein is made up of native Romansch-speakers, Portuguese people, and other European nationalities, including Italians and Poles. Additionally, there is a small Muslim community, largely made up of Bosnians, who have settled in the country in recent years.
