This day highlights the crucial role that education plays in achieving sustainable development goals and creating a better world for all.

History of International Day of Education

The International Day of Education was first celebrated in 2019, with the theme "Education: A Key Driver for Inclusion and Empowerment." According to UNESCO, this disruption in education could have a lasting impact on the learning outcomes of students, especially those from marginalized communities.

The pandemic has also highlighted the digital divide, with many students lacking access to technology and internet connectivity for remote learning. This has further widened the gap in education and highlighted the need for more inclusive and equitable education systems.

Efforts to Promote Education

Despite the challenges, there have been significant efforts to promote education globally. The UN has launched initiatives such as the Global Education Coalition, which aims to support countries in strengthening their education systems and ensuring continuity of learning during the pandemic.

In addition, various organizations and individuals are working towards providing quality education to underserved communities. For example, the Malala Fund, founded by Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai, advocates for girls' education and provides resources and support to girls in developing countries.
