Walkerton volunteers honoured by national program

WALKERTON – Local volunteers are among the eight recipients of the first-ever Wishbone Awards. These awards celebrate the unsung holiday heroes across Canada – people like Walkerton’s Barbara Vandenbor and Ashley Walter, of the BigDoor. The BigDoor in Walkerton was recently awarded one of eight cash prizes for their efforts in providing warm meals to those in need in the local area. Pastor Graham Ghent of Walkerton Community Church said the two volunteers started providing meals to those facing homelessness two years ago at a local motel.
