Plenty of memories but mixed feelings about curtain having closed on Rochester Rotary Holiday Classic

Dec. 25 — ROCHESTER — There is some sorrow out there, about a Rochester basketball tradition that beginning late this month will be no more. There is understanding, too. For 34 years, Mayo Civic Center was host to the Rochester Rotary Holiday Classic. The final running of that boys and girls tournament was last December. A handful of factors went into pulling the plug on a tournament which in its heyday was host to some of the top players and teams in the state. Among them were fewer Rotarians available to help put on the event, rising tournament costs and difficulty finding Class 4A teams willing to participate in the tournament. Without the Rotary Holiday Classic, a void now exists…
