Japanese Market Modestly Lower

TOKYO (dpa-AFX) – Extending the losses in the previous session, the Japanese stock market is modestly lower on Tuesday, with the Nikkei 225 falling well below the 33,400 level, following the broadly negative cues from global markets overnight, dragged by weakness in some index heavyweights. The benchmark Nikkei 225 Index is down 122.04 points or 0.36 percent at 33,325.63, after hitting a low of 33,305.51 earlier. Japanese shares ended notably lower on Monday. Market heavyweight SoftBank Group is edging up 0.5 percent and Uniqlo operator Fast Retailing is gaining almost 1 percent.
