Opinion: This boomer grew up watching Dr. King’s quest for equality. It’s not over.

Janet Y. Jackson Monday is the national holiday honoring the birth of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., which was signed into law in 1983 by President Ronald Regan. Currently, at least, most children are taught about King in school. Aside from Columbus Day — which has been renamed Indigenous People’s Day or Italian American Heritage and Culture Day by opposing groups recently — this holiday is the only one in our nation named for an individual other than a president. For many, this is simply a day of leisure. For boomers like me, however, Dr. King was more than a man in a history book. He was a man of our generation who sacrificed his life in pursuit…
