Life Savers keep it sweet for Greater Clevelanders around holidays: Classic CLE Eats & Drinks

CLEVELAND, Ohio — “The stockings were hung by the chimney with care in hopes that a ‘Sweet Storybook’ soon would be there.” Didn’t everyone adjust the words? Just me? OK, then. “T’was the Night Before Christmas,” indeed — and my 1970s vision every December was of that cardboard vault of sweets dancing in my head. It wasn’t just the fact that you would have a pound of portable sugar at your disposal. No. There were 10-12 rolls of different flavors of Life Savers candies in those boxes — some different from the standard “Five Flavor,” “Wild Cherry,” “Butter Rum” and three kinds of mint that you found throughout the year at the drugstore or convenience shop.
