MUMBAI: Shivangi Agarwal, 20 and three other law students on Saturday filed a petition to challenge a public holiday declared by Maharashtra government in Jan 22, for the consecration of the Ram temple at Ayodhya. Agarwal, Satyajit Salve,21, Vedant Agrawal 19 and Khushi Bangla, 21students from MNLU, Mumbai, GLC and NIRMA law school, Ahmedabad, interning in Mumbai law firms took exception to State General Administration Department’s Notification dated 19.01.2024 declaring 22nd Jan, 2024 as public holiday and challenged it on grounds that it flouts the secular principles laid down under the Constitution of India. “The consecration of a temple” said the petition, ” cannot be in any manner a concern of the Government.
