PROVIDENCE – As if traffic wasn’t heavy enough with the Washington Bridge trouble, AAA is projecting the nation’s second-busiest Christmas holiday travel season since 2000. AAA forecasts that 115.2 million Americans will travel 50 miles or more over the 10-day holiday travel period, from Saturday, Dec. 23, through New Year’s Day. That marks a 2.2% increase over last year and is the second-highest since AAA started tracking holiday travel in 2000. The busiest Christmas travel season so far was 2019, AAA said.
